Comments:

I felt guilty going off to UC Santa Cruz in '70, since it was so "hot" that year, but it turned out to be the wrong school and the wrong major (math). So I came back to College of Marin and majored in Drama and Music, ultimately getting a degree from SFSU in Theater Arts, doing grad work, and going to New York for a year. But I came back to Marin, got married, went to law school (Hastings), and have been practicing law here since '85, currently as the owner of Marin Law Center. During that same 25-year period, I've been very active in civic and political affairs, and was elected to and served on the College of Marin Board of Trustees from '89 to '07, when I was elected to the San Rafael City Council. I've also been very active in the Marin Democratic Party (immediate past Chair), and numerous other organizations. Finally, I've produced and hosted a dozen or so public access TV series on various topics, mostly political. although mostly I just appear as a guest before and after elections as a sort of Democratic pundit.

School Story:

I went from shy nerdy Chess Club lunches (and afraid people would discover I was still in Boy Scouts), to small parts in the school plays, to still more small parts in the school plays, to major roles in two big musicals (Brigadoon and Carnival). Those were my social highlights, which of course rank much higher than any academic highlights in my memory. I took mostly honors courses, and maybe I still hold the record for having taken 11 semesters of math courses, being an early "Mathlete." I was President of the International Club, where we were early recyclers of newspapers. And I'll always remember regularly walking into the library, talking loudly, and regularly getting vigorously thrown out by Ms. Chin before I got even a few steps inside. Also, I remember being sent to the Dean's office for having the temerity to kiss my girlfriend briefly in the hallway, which embarrassed both the Dean and me, because he knew my mother from the PTA (she later became a school board member). I remember taking a typing class, but have still never learned to touch-type, although I do type quickly. And I remember Moratorium Day, when we circled the school, holding hands, demonstrating that all leadership took was the ability to say "Gimme a "P'", gimme an "E," (then A, C, and E), and having people join in. And I've been a peacenik ever since.

Remember the guy who played Jeff Douglas opposite you in Brigadoon in '69? That was me, and I'd love to hear what you've been doing, especially any performing things. You were and presumably still are so incredibly talented. I've been doing lots of musical comedies myself again in recent years, and I'd love to do so much more, as I "retire" (transition into a new career?).
