barely a day goes by that I don't remember Liesbet. Her family home was two houses away from mine on Chapman Hill in CM. Her mother still lives in the family house. She was an incredibly talented artist and had been working in SF at the time of her death at a visual arts firm near the Levi Strauss Building at the base of Telegraph Hill. She, her brother Jan and I would go hiking on Mt Tam all the time and she loved the outdoors. I remember once in the 80s being invited to a party by Liesbet in SF. She told me "Nick, please DON'T mention computers or science, okay?? These people are artists!" She was beautiful and healthy, but suddenly came down with stomach cancer and died within a month. I miss her terribly.

I remember Lizbet as a lovely,  sweet young woman.  My dear friend John Whitelaw who also passed away just a few years ago was good friends with Lizbet,  and he was really crestfallen when she died.

Although John never had a longterm romance with Lizbet,   I believe they did have a brief love affair after college,  because John used to tell me that Lizbet was one of the most wonderful women he's ever known.  Bruce Macgowan

Tragically, her brother Jan van der Hoeven died suddenly this year, 2022.  He was two years ahead of us at Redwood. He lived in Holland with his wife, Aujke Beenhakker, and two sons, Eric and Joost. Jan would come back to Marin almost every year to enjoy the outdoors.
