This is long overdue as Jane passed away in November. One day in the second week of November, I received a text from Jane's son, Jamie. He was telling me that Jane had been diagnosed with a brain disorder (ischemia) and dementia due to it. He had gone through her contacts and found my name and was asking me if there was anything I would like to say to her (via a phone message left on his phone which he would later play back to her). He also told me that time was of the essence. I did so and it was played back for her to listen to. Jamie said she teared up (she was unable to speak anymore). Jane died the next morning.
Jane was a roomate of mine for a couple of years in the early '70's with her future husband, Bruce Iverson. We lived in an old Victorian at 5th and Heatherton in San Rafael. Jane maintained all the beautiful houseplants - especially the several coleus throughout the apartment. We had a lot of parties in those old days - with lots of friends from Redwood and friends that are no longer with us - including our other roomate and her future husband, Bruce Iverson, and Mike Ritchhart. There was always a lot of laughter and music in the house - Bruce and I played guitar, as did Robin Yeager, who was over often. Jane, always the straight one in a household that constantly tempted you to "indulge", would always have a smile on her face and kind of took care that we didn't get too outrageous.
Jane lost her parents when she and her sister were in their teens - I believe in an auto accident - leaving Jane to care for her sister, Jenny. Jenny passed away suddenly from a blood desease about 10 years ago. Jane always rose above the insurmountable grief and pain that had been a part of her life for so many years. She loved her son, Jamie, so much. They loved and attended as many Warrior and King's basketball games as they could - with several Giants games as well. She had a lot of love to give. I'll miss your occassional phone calls, Jane, and bumping into you walking the sands at Stinson Beach. See you and Bruce on the other side. RIP
